Case Description

I. MMA Construction Process

The deck of the ribbon-style connecting bridge in Sanmen County utilizes the **MMA Colored Anti-slip Broadcast-Aggregate Construction Process**. The procedure begins with blast-cleaning the steel box girder substrate to remove rust—achieving a surface cleanliness grade of Sa 2.5—followed by dust removal and the application of an epoxy primer. Next, the MMA resin and curing agent are mixed according to specific ratios and applied uniformly using a rubber squeegee to form a bonding layer 3–5 mm thick. Immediately thereafter, colored ceramic aggregates are broadcast over the surface—either as a full coverage or in linear patterns. Once cured, any loose aggregates are swept away, and a final topcoat is applied to seal and reinforce the surface. The entire process is conducted at ambient temperature; each section undergoes **rapid curing within 1–2 hours**, allowing for segmented, continuous-flow operations that align perfectly with the steel bridge hoisting schedule and the demands of the complex coastal environment.

II. Advantages of MMA Materials

MMA colored paving features **high flexibility, lightweight properties, and exceptional weather resistance and durability**, making it perfectly suited to accommodate the thermal expansion and contraction of steel bridges as well as the corrosive salt-mist environment of coastal regions. It boasts an anti-slip value (BPN) of ≥75, ensuring safety and comfort even in rainy conditions. The **colors remain stable and fade-resistant**; a primary light-gray base is accented with colored lines to enhance the visual "ribbon" aesthetic of the bridge. With its **rapid 1-hour curing time and thin-layer application**, the material adds negligible structural load to the bridge while significantly shortening the overall construction schedule. Furthermore, it offers **integrated waterproofing and anti-corrosion capabilities combined with strong adhesion**, resulting in a service life of 8–10 years. This minimizes the need for frequent maintenance in the long run, offering a comprehensive cost-performance ratio that is significantly superior to that of traditional paving materials.
